Ficus Altissima Yellow Gem is one of the most striking variegated Ficus available. Its large, broadly oval leaves are a rich medium green with bold, bright yellow-green variegation that splashes and bleeds through the leaf surface in an organic, almost brushstroke-like pattern. It grows into an impressive indoor tree with time and brings a vivid, sun-drenched quality to any room it occupies. It is a newer and increasingly sought-after alternative to the Rubber Plant and Fiddle Leaf Fig.
Good for beginners? Yes, with attention to consistency. Ficus Altissima prefers stable conditions and does not like being moved frequently. Once settled in a bright spot it is quite low maintenance.
Safe for cats and dogs? Ficus Altissima is toxic to pets if ingested. The sap can also irritate skin. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs.
Light needs: Bright indirect light is important for maintaining the vivid yellow variegation and encouraging healthy growth. The yellow patterning fades in lower light. Avoid harsh direct sun and avoid moving the plant frequently.
Care at a glance: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Feed monthly in spring and summer. Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to keep them glossy. Keep in temperatures between 60°F and 75°F for best growth.
