Ficus Elastica Burgundy is the dark, dramatic version of the beloved rubber plant. Its large, paddle-shaped leaves are a deep, rich burgundy that appears almost black in lower light and comes alive with warm red and mahogany tones in brighter conditions. It grows upright with a bold, sculptural presence that works beautifully in modern, minimal, and tropical-inspired interiors. A single well-grown Burgundy rubber plant can transform a room entirely.

Good for beginners? Yes. Ficus Elastica is one of the most adaptable and forgiving large houseplants available. Find the right spot and give it consistent care and it will reward you for years.

Safe for cats and dogs? Ficus Elastica is toxic to pets if ingested. The sap can also irritate skin. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs.

Light needs: Bright indirect light produces the best growth and keeps the dark burgundy tones most vivid. It tolerates medium light but the deep color may shift toward green. Avoid direct harsh sun and avoid moving it frequently as Ficus dislikes disruption.

Care at a glance: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Feed monthly in spring and summer. Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to keep them glossy and allow maximum light absorption. Avoid cold drafts.

Care Instructions

Light: Ficus Elastica 'Burgundy' requires bright, indirect light. Place the plant near a window that does not get direct sunlight.
Water: Water your plant when the top inch or two of soil feels dry. Water thoroughly, until the water comes out of the drainage holes, then discard the excess water. Avoid overwatering, as this can cause root rot.
Fertilizer: Feed every two to three weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the spring and summer months. Don't fertilize during the winter.
