Begonia 'Rex'

Begonia Rex is the most theatrical and elaborately decorated houseplant in the Begonia family. Its large, asymmetric leaves are painted in an extraordinary combination of deep green, silver, red, purple, and bronze in swirling, banded patterns that make each leaf look like a piece of hand-crafted art. No two Rex Begonias look exactly alike, and even on the same plant each leaf carries a slightly different expression of the pattern. It is compact enough for a desk or tabletop and genuinely impossible to overlook.

Good for beginners? It requires moderate care. Rex Begonia prefers consistent moisture, higher humidity, and bright indirect light to look its most spectacular. It is manageable for attentive growers who can provide these conditions.

Safe for cats and dogs? Begonia is toxic to pets if ingested, particularly the roots. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs.

Light needs: Bright indirect light produces the most vivid color contrast and the most dramatic leaf patterning. It tolerates medium light but the colors become less saturated. Avoid direct sun which can scorch the delicate, colorful leaves.
