Calathea 'Makoyana'

Calathea Makoyana, known as the Peacock Plant, is one of the most intricately patterned plants in the entire houseplant world. Its oval leaves are a translucent pale green with a complex pattern of dark green brushstrokes and blotches that mirror each other across the leaf surface like a peacock's tail. The undersides are a rich, deep purple. In the right light the pale portions of the leaf appear almost backlit, giving it a luminous, stained-glass quality.

Good for beginners? It requires more attention than beginner plants. Calathea Makoyana prefers consistent humidity, filtered water, and indirect light. It is one of the more rewarding Calatheas to care for when the conditions are right.

Light needs: Bright to medium indirect light keeps the intricate pattern most vivid. Direct sun will fade and scorch the delicate leaf markings. It tolerates lower light but growth slows significantly.
