Pilea Peperomioides is one of the most charming and distinctive houseplants you can own. Its perfectly round, coin-shaped leaves float on slender stems like tiny lily pads hovering in the air, creating a playful, almost animated display. It is compact, grows readily, and produces offshoots from its base that you can separate and share — which is exactly why it earned the nickname the Friendship Plant.

Good for beginners? Yes. Pilea is straightforward to care for and communicates clearly when it needs water by letting its leaves droop slightly. Once you learn its signals it is very easy to keep thriving.

Safe for cats and dogs? Yes. Pilea Peperomioides is non-toxic to pets, making it a great choice for pet-friendly homes.

Light needs: Bright indirect light keeps the leaves most circular and the plant growing evenly. Rotate the pot a quarter turn each week to prevent the plant leaning toward the light source.

Care at a glance: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Do not let it sit in water. Feed monthly in spring and summer. Remove offshoots from the base when they appear and pot them separately to share with friends.

Ships fresh from one of our two greenhouse locations in a nursery pot. Covered by our 30-Day Plant Guarantee — if it arrives damaged, we replace it. Free shipping on orders $149+.
